The International 470

The 470 is a two person, high performance trapeze dinghy.  Designed by Andre Cornu, the 470 is popular around the world, with the classes stronghold being Europe and especially France.   Its a bit over 15 feet long (470 centimeters) and weighs a little over 200 lbs.  Teamwork is crucial to success in this class.

The 470 has been an Olympic Class since 1976 (Canada).  Since the 1988 Games (Korea), the class has been featured in two separate Olympic events,  an all-women's event and an "open" event (effectively all men).  For more information on the Olympic 470 visit the class' web site

Here's some great pics of JJ and Pease sailing their Olympic class 470, taken by professional photographer Peter McGowan.  He holds the copyright to all of them.  Contact Peter McGowan for more information.
